At this imagination factory, it all starts with the writing

Welcome to Triple Action Studios …

The creative process works in mysterious ways. For example, I recently appointed myself CEO and creative director of the creative studio I just created. Long story short, the unexpected opportunity to collaborate on a theatrical production inspired me to create Triple Action Studios. Another fun way of storytelling my stories.

Quick back story: I had recently gotten “Downsized!” after a long career in journalism). This led to new inspiration as a creative copywriter for the hottest marketing agency in town. My downsizing also compelled me prioritize my passion for writing and discovering my true destiny as a creative artist.

Boom! All of a sudden I’m a first-time playwright/actor. I got the call from L.A. where friend and creative collaborator Chris Elliott is crushing it in like nine different art forms. “Somebody Dies” is a performance of two one-act plays Chris invited me to collborate on and perform in.

— John Breneman, first-time plywright and actor

Here’s a sneak peak at my forthcoming debut short film – “Bicycle Time Traveler.”

“Somebody Dies”
Two one-act plays by Chris Elliott and John Breneman, staged at The Players’ Ring Theatre in Portsmouth, NH (Summer 2019)
My man Chris Elliott is truly a force of nature.

I “discovered” him when I was 16 — he was rocking York Beach, Maine, with his band Bizarre Substance — and I knew instantly that I wanted to create with him someday (note: he has that effect on people).

We’ve been at it for a while now … but our recent hijinks have set the stage for life-changing creative adventures. I’ve never felt more alive than when preparing for and performing in “Somebody Dies” with Kent Klineman, Constance Witman & Co. at the Players’ Ring Theatre.

Keepin’ it Reel (video clips) …

This was soooo much fun! … doing a 26-minute live set as a featured artist at the monthly Beat Night held at Book & Bar in Portsmouth, NH. Organizer Mike Nelson encouraged me to promote “A Man of Remarkable Restraint,” my first novel.

Live storytelling: “I Sold a Piece of My Childhood Today” started as a reflection on how my 14-year-old self’s investment in baseball cards is helping 60-year-old me pursue my dreams as a creative artist.  This video is from Long Story Short, a live storytelling event held at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, NH.

“Writer’s Block” is 3-Minute Fiction Slam version of the opening chapter of my future novel, “The Writer.” This video is me warming up to represent Portsmouth in the NH Writers Project virtual state finals.

Wordplay (news format):
Global Economic Meltdown
Broadcasting live from the near future, Triple Action News anchorman Reid Page delivers some geopolitical wordplay about income inequality and the global economy.
Fake political ad:
Two Real Americans for McCain
Larry Lunch-Bucket (Chris Elliott) and Joe Six-Pack (John Breneman) discuss their love for McCain while savoring a plate of McCain crinkle cut French fries.
Lead role:
‘Acid Rain Man’
Inspired by Dustin Hoffman’s Oscar-winning “Rain Man,” a humorous Earth Day report from noted autistic-savant, global-warming expert Acid Rain Man.

On Coming Out as a Writer

The urge to write weird humor started an early age. The urge to discover my true destiny as a creative artist evolved over time, then kicked in hard when I was downsized from a 30-year career in journalism.

The soul-searching that led to my aforementioned self-downsizing also inspired the concept of metaphorically “coming out as a writer.” The following item describes one scribe’s epiphany as he sees his future as a writer flashing before his eyes.

It aspires to be both sincere and tongue in cheek, in expressing a moment of self-affirmation that leads to a positive life choice.

Needing more time for fiction, nonfiction, etc. …
I was experiencing some serious friction in my work-life balance.

Suddenly, I realized that the answer was write before my eyes

that to do write by myself I needed to

follow what feels write in my heart

get on the write track

start making all the write moves

get my life moving in the write direction

put myself in the write place at the write time

and, if i play my cards write

I will write like the wind

and write off into the sunset …

Triple Action Screening Room: Today’s Features …

“This is America”
Childish Gambino
I think this guy is an extraordinarily talented artist. Here’s a clip of Childish Gambino freestyle rapping.
“We all have it comin’, kid.”
Clint Eastwood, “Unforgiven”
This connects to a weird idea I had for using dialogue from Clint Eastwood movies to fashion a Clint Commencement Address entitled “.44 Magmun Cum Laude.”
“Drill Sergeant Loses It”
Chris Elliott
I wrote/filmed this ridiculous bit to have fun with Chris’ trumpeting and acting chops — and it accidentally got 400,000+ views.
Special thanks to our Triple Action sponsors !!!
